Third Annual Grantsmanship Information Session

Each year, the Sponsored Programs Office offers a number of Grantsmanship Information Sessions (GIS) for Ball State affiliates and this year, the third annual (GIS) will be held on Monday, February 3rd, 2014. The event will take place on the second floor of the Student Center from 1:30 - 4:00 pm.

Dr. David Stone, Associate Vice President for Research at Northern Illinois University will present a keynote address titled Research at Ball State Redefined: Empowering Faculty. A Knowledge Unit Meet & Greet that fosters interdisciplinary research and explores potential opportunities for collaboration is scheduled to follow the keynote address.

Campus Knowledge and Support Units in attendance will include:

• Center for Energy Research/Education/Service
• Center for International Development
• Center for Middletown Studies
• Center for Peace and Conflict Studies  
• Social Science Research Center

Positioning New Faculty for Success in Research 

Dr. David Stone will present several research practices to help build a solid foundation for new faculty members to successfully begin their research agenda.  

Fulbright Scholar Information Session

Mr. Justin Miller, Director of Sponsored Programs will introduce the Fulbright Scholar Program which sends both faculty and professionals abroad each year as they conduct research in various academic and professional fields.

Professionalize Your Approach to Grantsmanship

SPO Program Manager, Dr. Stanley Geidel will discuss a professional approach to seeking external funding by examining three important roles that faculty occupy in the Academy: the roles of professor, principal investigator, and grantseeker. 

New Ways to Approach Private and Foundation Funding
This presentation will explore the current state of private funding while examining the trends that colleges and universities should consider when applying for grants offered by corporations and foundations.

The 2014-2015 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program core competition is now open.
The Fulbright Scholar Program offers teaching, research or combination teaching/research awards in over 125 countries for the 2014-2015 academic year. Opportunities are available for college and university faculty and administrators as well as for professionals, artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, independent scholars and many others.

In order to meet the changing needs of academia and develop new options to accommodate better the interests and commitments of today’s scholars, the program has introduced several innovations to the 2014-2015 program, including: Fulbright Flex Awards, Fulbright Postdoctoral/Early Career Awards, Salary Stipend Supplements, and Teaching English as a Foreign Language Awards.

Interested faculty and professionals are encouraged to learn more about these opportunities, and hundreds of others, by visiting the Catalog of Awards.

There are awards in 45 specific academic disciplines as well as 167 awards open to all disciplines.

Each deals with a topic germane to the 2013-2014 competition, from regional and discipline information to how to fill out an application. Fulbright Scholar Program Information Session: May 4

The Sponsored Programs Office will present an information session on the Core Fulbright Scholar Program for Ball State University faculty and professional personnel Wednesday, May 4, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. in Room 303 of the L. A. Pittenger Student Center.Please feel free to bring a brown bag lunch. Beverages will be provided.

Former Ball State Fulbrighters, Jay Bagga and John Pichtel, will share their insight and experiences about the Fulbright program; SPO and Contracts and Grants Office staff will sketch out application procedures and award management.
