The 2014-2015 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program core competition is now open!

The 2014-2015 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program core competition is now open.
The Fulbright Scholar Program offers teaching, research or combination teaching/research awards in over 125 countries for the 2014-2015 academic year. Opportunities are available for college and university faculty and administrators as well as for professionals, artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, independent scholars and many others.

In order to meet the changing needs of academia and develop new options to accommodate better the interests and commitments of today’s scholars, the program has introduced several innovations to the 2014-2015 program, including: Fulbright Flex Awards, Fulbright Postdoctoral/Early Career Awards, Salary Stipend Supplements, and Teaching English as a Foreign Language Awards.

Interested faculty and professionals are encouraged to learn more about these opportunities, and hundreds of others, by visiting the Catalog of Awards.

Cohen Peace Travel Funds Available

There are funds available from the Benjamin V. Cohen Peace Fellowship Fund to support faculty members and graduate students that are presenting scholarly papers or serving on a symposium at professional conferences on topics directly connected to the mission of the Cohen Fund which "is to provide a lasting memorial to Benjamin Cohen by fostering new approaches to the problems of peacemaking."

Awards from the fund shall be used to memorialize Mr. Cohen's commitment to the attainment of world peace by focusing on the study and discussion of world issues that affect world peace.

Two awards of up to $500 are available for this academic year. Funds may only be used to offset travel expenses (e.g., airfare, lodging, local transportation, meals).

2013 Emerging Media Innovation Grants

In partnership with the Vice Provost for Research, the Emerging Media Initiative is awarding two branches of grants for which full-time faculty (tenured, tenure-track, and contract) are eligible to apply. Professional personnel in collaboration with faculty are also eligible. Read the application requirements (PDF).

We are accepting applications for funding in these two areas:

• Proposal preparation for external emerging media-related funding of $50,000 or more ($5,000 summer stipend)
• Seed funding for commercializable concepts, tools and processes involving emerging media ($5-7,000 summer stipend)

On February 1, 2013, the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) released specific proposals for comprehensive grant reform guidance. Comments from those who want to help shape the outcome are due by May 2, 2013.

Get a heads-up on what's coming down. A free 2-page article, by Henry Flood, The Grantsmanship Center's senior advisor for grant management, tells you where to get the information you need to assess how the proposed changes will affect your organization and whether or not to submit comments.

From NIH: FY2012 By The Numbers

In a recent post over at the National Institutes of Health's Rock Talk blog Dr. Sally Rockey, the NIH's Deputy Director for Extramural Research, presents a summary of the FY2012 NIH numbers. This post presents information on success rates, applications, awards, and many other points of interest.

Dr. Rockey is pleased with the FY2012 numbers. She states in the post, "Despite a flat budget and complex fiscal times, we maintained last year’s success rate and slightly increased the amount of award dollars that went to research project grants."
