Discovery Award Grant Application Now Available - Due 11/15

APPLICATIONS DUE NOVEMBER 15, 2015! 

Discovery is a women's collaborative philanthropic group established to support projects and programs at Ball State University.

Discovery members are volunteers who pool annual contributions and work with university administrators to select the projects they support.

Discovery members encourage projects that significantly impact Ball State students, offer immersive learning opportunities, and have potential for other external funding in the future. The maximum grant request amount is $25,000.00.

Discovery will consider funding for: specialized equipment, student assistant wages, graduate assistantships, program administrative costs, and summer stipend (salary is capped at $2,500; plus additional fringe benefits).

Discovery will not consider funding for: faculty release time, computer equipment, general office equipment, or indirect costs.

Indiana Academy of Science Semi-Annual Deadline Approaching

The semi-annual deadline for the Indiana Academy of Science Senior Research Grants program is coming up on September 15, 2015. Ball State has had a great deal of success with these grant and we highly encourage faculty to apply. The next cycle deadline is March 1, 2016.

From the Indiana Academy of Science website, "The Indiana Academy of Science Senior Research Grants Program makes awards of up to $3000 to Academy members or students they sponsor to purchase supplies, support travel and field expenses, pay research assistants, and provide other items required to conduct novel scientific research." IAC Individual Artist Program Workshops and Deadline

In December and January the Indiana Arts Commission will be hosting workshops regarding the Individual Artist Program. The deadline for this program is February 7th, 2014 for projects focused on "crafts, design, media, photography, visual arts, and folk arts related to these disciplines. The workshops offer an opportunity to get your questions answered and to familiarize yourself with this grant program. NEH Summer Stipend Deadline and Information

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Stipends support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. Research typically results in articles, monographs, books, digital materials, archaeological site reports, translations, editions, or other scholarly resources. Summer Stipends support continuous full-time work on a humanities project for a period of two months.

An outright award of $6,000 is provided for two consecutive months of full-time research and writing. In accordance with NEH guidelines, Ball State may nominate two faculty proposals.

Ball State internal application deadline is August 29, 2013.
Deadline for final submission to the NEH is September 26, 2013 for projects beginning May 2014.

The 2014-2015 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program core competition is now open.
The Fulbright Scholar Program offers teaching, research or combination teaching/research awards in over 125 countries for the 2014-2015 academic year. Opportunities are available for college and university faculty and administrators as well as for professionals, artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, independent scholars and many others.

In order to meet the changing needs of academia and develop new options to accommodate better the interests and commitments of today’s scholars, the program has introduced several innovations to the 2014-2015 program, including: Fulbright Flex Awards, Fulbright Postdoctoral/Early Career Awards, Salary Stipend Supplements, and Teaching English as a Foreign Language Awards.

2013 Emerging Media Innovation Grants

2013 Emerging Media Innovation Grants

In partnership with the Vice Provost for Research, the Emerging Media Initiative is awarding two branches of grants for which full-time faculty (tenured, tenure-track, and contract) are eligible to apply. Professional personnel in collaboration with faculty are also eligible. Read the application requirements (PDF).

We are accepting applications for funding in these two areas:

• Proposal preparation for external emerging media-related funding of $50,000 or more ($5,000 summer stipend)
• Seed funding for commercializable concepts, tools and processes involving emerging media ($5-7,000 summer stipend)

Applications are due to emi@bsu.edu by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2013. Awardees will be announced by Friday, April 5.

Announcing the new Advance Program

The Sponsored Programs Office is pleased to announce the new Advance Program. The Advance award will support proposal development through dedicated summer time, academic year release time, travel and/or supplies that will directly impact the development and submission of a competitive external grant proposal.

Requested support can be in the form of summer stipend, summer graduate assistantship, supplemental assigned time, and/or supplies, expenses, equipment, and travel (SEET), up to $15,000.

Upcoming 2013 deadlines for Advance applications are:

• January 15, 2013
• March 15, 2013*
• May 15, 2013

*Requests for summer pay must be made no later than the March 15 deadline.

Delays in Grant Application Submission due to Hurricane Sandy

From OER Grants: The NIH realizes that the path of Hurricane Sandy may cause problems in grant application submission for organizations located over a wide portion of the east coast. The usual NIH practice for such circumstances will apply. Electronic and paper applications submitted late because of weather problems must include a cover letter noting the reasons for the delay. It is not necessary to get permission in advance for weather-related delays in grant application submissions. The delay should not exceed the time period that an applicant organization/institution is closed.
